体坛英语资讯:Liverpool captain Gerrard likely to miss four weeks

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is likely to miss three to four weeks after picking up a hamstring injury on England duty on Wednesday, confirmed the Premier League side on Thursday.

Gerrard, 30, played 85 minutes in the international friendly against France at Wembley as the Three Lions finally lost to the visitors 2-1.

Gerrard apparently injured his right thigh while scrambling for the ball with Yoann Gourcuff of France, then was replaced by Spurs striker Peter Crouch who pulled a goal back with his first touch of the game in the 86th minute.

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard celebrates after scoring his third goal during their Europa League soccer match against Napoli at Anfield in Liverpool, northern England, November 4, 2010.

The Liverpool playmaker underwent a scan Thursday afternoon, "which confirmed the early assessment of our medical team at Melwood that the injury is a grade two tear," read the Liverpool official website.

If Gerrard is sidelined for four weeks he will miss six matches domestic or in Europe.
